Not Average
They say i'm not your average white girl because i'm not that basic
starbuck , uggs and caked faces
People have said “ you look light,
But you don't talk white”
Why does how i speak
Have to do with the color of my cheek?
When did my color equate to the way that i speak?
They say i'm not your average white girl
They say i'm not your average latina because i'm not tan
You know the natural gold, bronzy klan
No no not your average latina because i'm too classy
Never loud and just the right sassy
Not to feisty
Maybe a little bit bossy
They say i'm not your average latina
That's what they say
But you see compared to the average white girl that i know
Then no
I'm not your average white girl
I'm not no Sarah and Angelina Grimké
Who fought against slavery
Making history
Being brave
To fight for the slaves
Even if it wasn't her people
She wanted us all to be equal
I'm not your average white girl
And compared to the average latina that i know
Then no
I'm not your average latina
I'm not no selena
Who broke down barriers
Like a warrior
By her simply tunes
That you could hear from morn till the noon
With just love and passion
Changed manys chose of action
I'm not your average latina
Excuse me, but i'm tired
Tired of the stereotype that white girls and latinas have fallen into because of america rationality
So forgive me i can't blatantly accept your compliments
It's just the average white girl that i know
Forgive me i can't blantly accept your compliments
It's just the average latina that i know
As America society imperceptibly throws these insolent words onto me
I say, “No!”
I am not the average white girl
I'm not the average latina
I can only aim to be
