My Cultural Reflection

I look in the mirror
A girl with brown skin stares at me
I want to wear my hair straight
She prefers it curly
I speak with Webster's English
She likes Urban Dictionary Slang
I want to acculturate, and fit in
She thinks it's assimilation, so she stands out
We disagree about everything
Because we want to be ourselves in society
I fear the way the world looks at me
She takes the stares as encouragement
I don't want to fight her
But I can't embrace her yet
Maybe one day
Our time will come
