Oxygen
I lost track of my shadow
somewhere along the way
I lived on the change
he left behind
I lost a rhythm and
poured out feelings from the tap
I lived on something
that was never ours at all
So now I sing and fall off the edge
past the sidewalk’s end
I’m quiet enough to remember
you’re the oxygen I breathe
But air is made of
whatever the f*** I want it to be
So I’ll sit here
on the concrete
and find out what I need
And if it isn’t you I’ll move planets,
tear up the soil and begin again
Oxygen doesn’t give love, after all-
just life
and if I dig deep enough
I can find life anywhere.
