A Lover's Realization
“How do you love me?” you ask.
My dear were you not listening
Was your mind away that night,
When crickets were chirping, when the moon was glistening?
I’ve told you then and I’m telling you now
You are my first and last thought;
The vessel I pour my love into
The loveliest among the catch I have caught
“But wait,” you say
You do not want to be merely a thought
You desire not poured love, but showered, sacrificial, enduring love
You wish not to be among, but the only one I’ve caught
Alas! I know now, it was not you whose mind was away that night
But ‘tis I who do not know how to love

His love is neither inadequate nor chosen over, it's just that the lady expects deeper, at the same time higher acts of love.
