Red Shoes
Do you miss the red shoes you wore last year?
I hadn’t thought of them until a week ago when we were
sitting on the swings in your backyard and I realized you
were wearing blue sneakers and I thought, Whatever happened
to those red shoes?
You wore them every day a year ago. As far as I know, you even
slept in them. Why did you take them off? I’ve never seen
a pair of shoes like that. They were dancing shoes--
I imagine that, like the old story of the red dancing shoes,
once you put them on you can’t stop yourself from dancing.
And you couldn’t. You never stopped dancing last year.
Why did you take them off?
