Removing the Weight off My Shoulders
From the day I started school,
The world placed a weight on my shoulders,
A weight that was heavier than thousands of boulders
  39,000 weights on my shoulders
What was the weight, you might ask?
The weight is the price of college
Or in other words, the price of knowledge
  39,000 weights on my shoulders
  The weight grew and grew,
  No relief I could find,
  Everything would remind
  39,000 weights on my shoulders
  What could be done?
How could I afford the fee?
  Because college is not free
  39,000 weights on my shoulders
  In my moments of despair,
  My answer came,
“Work hard and you will reach your aim”
  39,000 weights on my shoulders
These words echoed in my head,
I would strive to do my best at school,
  I had found my jewel
  39,000 weights on my shoulders
Essays upon Essays, Questions upon Questions
  Working till late at night,
  Working with all my might
  39,000 weights on my shoulders
  This jewel was costly yes,
But I was not going to quit
  This was worth it
  39,000 weights on my shoulders
My grades kept going up and up,
Until the shiny number of four
  Appeared on my score
  39,000 weights on my shoulders
  My hard work was repaid
In the form of an acceptance letter
That freed me from becoming a debtor
  7,000 weights on my shoulders
  A scholarship was my reward,
  The weight was almost gone,
I was beginning to see the dawn
  7,000 weights on my shoulders
But there were still some clouds,
  A few heavyweights remained
How could the funds be obtained?
  7,000 weights on my shoulders
  The answer to this prayer
  Came from the state,
I could not believe my fate
  4,000 weights on my shoulders
The heavy boulders were almost gone,
The last weights were going to disappear,
Or were they, this was my fear
  4,000 weights on my shoulders

Hope was renewed by the generosity of angels,
  A thousand was lifted
But I still needed more to be gifted
  3,000 weights on my shoulders
I pleaded through the form of essays,
  On every directory ever created,
  And I waited
  3,000 weights on my shoulders
  The burden was lifted,
Finally, I was free to fly,
I could go as high as the sky
No more weights on my shoulders

This is a poem on the price of college, which is the weight on my shoulder. Little by little, through scholarships and grants, the weight was lifted. The poem begins with 39,000 weights on my shoulder which is the price of the college I am going to attend and it ends with all the "weights" disappearing.
