The Unspoken Suicide
Stop!!!
Don’t say that word
I always wondered why
Don’t you know
It triggers
Flash backs, Panic attacks, Regressions, Condemnation,
Isolation, Relapses, Guilt, Shame, Depression
It never makes the tabloids, the newspapers
Not even on the obituary side
And yet every year 43,000 Americans die
And for every one 25 try
And whether or not they die
In America it still effects 4 out of every 5
Globally more than a million die
One every 30 seconds
Let me put that in perspective
Since I began this poem already 1 has died
And every second someone tries
Someone tried, someone tried, someone tried, someone tried, someone tried
Someone tried, Someone tried, someone tried, someone tried, someone tried
That was only 10 seconds and already 10 people have tried and perhaps all of them died
And If so many people have tried
Why can’t I say suicide
Because they all could’ve been prevented
And I know that it can trigger
But that’s how most of our soldiers die
Yet we spend trillions on the battle of war
Yet it’s the battle of life we should fight
And while I’m at it let me talk about the 2nd amendment
Cause 6 in 10 gun deaths make their own demise
And if you’re worried about murder
Don’t worry your 3 times more likely to take your life
I’m talking about this
Because I don’t think you know suicide
It doesn’t peak in the winter that’s in the springtime
And how can you say that it’s selfish
When I feel that I’m the burden you bear
Because No one commits that crime
They simply fall victim to their own tormented minds
And how dare you call it cowardice
I don’t mean to glorify
But it’s daunting
To step off the edge of the ledge of life
Knowing halfway down
It just might be you change your mind
And it’s not some impulsive silent act
It just might be a messed-up joke like
How I’d shoot myself tonight
Maybe it’s a phrase in passing
But eh, He’s not serious.
Right?
He’s not sad
We’ve never seen him cry
Or perhaps she always says she’ll kill herself
But she never even tries
Besides let’s not talk about this
Because it triggers
Flash backs, Panic attacks, Regressions, Condemnation,
Isolation, Relapses, Guilt, Shame, Depression
I want you to know I respect that
But Suicide doesn’t just trigger a bit emotional pain
It will devastate your life
And it doesn’t matter if you’re the one who ends it
Or if you’re the one left behind
Look, I know this topic creates tension
But we can’t have prevention
If you don’t want me to say
I think I’m going to take my life tonight
And then immediately call me selfish
Because so many never ask
Are you having thoughts of suicide?
There’s hope
So let me save your life tonight.
