Craters He Left
I will only remember his leaving
How the sky caved and emptiness fell through
Barren earth upon my scarred body
Scorch burns where he was last
Etched by his hands into the small of my back
Carved at such an angle
that it would shoot pain despite my protests
I was tangled in the cloth he had sewn
Convincing myself that his work would sooth my pain
And mend the shattering heart ache
But my flaming innocence contained no relief
His touch was as soft as a moth’s wing
I thought he loved me, as I did him
Until he decided to take a stab at my back
