Blue Bomb
7:00 PM still light,
outside, my heart beats.
What feels like days, is only two hours.
I walk outside staring as blue, yellow and red
fire rains down from the sky.\
I start to light my fireworks,
and the pile is smaller,
one by one, until I’m on my last one.
I light it, expecting the biggest explosion of all.
Instead I see it tip over,
as if everything turns into slow motion for an instant.
The blue bomb tips over just as the firework
shoots off towards my neighbors.
Exploding right by their faces,
my gut twists, as I see blue sparks fly into their yard.
“HOLY CRAP” The thirteen year old shouts.
I watch in awe and realize,
I almost killed my neighbors.
