Grandpa my best friend
Me and my grandpa haven't always been as close as we are now
Little did I know that starting my landscaping business, would bring us as close as we are today
He is more than just my grandpa
Over the past 2 years he has been my best friend,
my mentor
and a man who has the answers to all my questions
But today to hear the news brought immediate tears
He has been so forgiving of all the mistakes i've made,
Sadly stage 4/5 kidney failure isn't very forgiving
He made the choice to live the rest of his 2-6 month life expectancy detached
From machines and away from more painful surgeries
He made the choice that involves the least pain for him
But it still doesn't make it any easier to hear,
That I'm going to lose my bestfriend,
Mentor,
And man with all the answers to my oh so many questions
Over the past couple years he’s handed me over his plow truck
And his big plow accounts because frankly,
I’m the grandson he trusts the most,
Though I had to keep it a secret so nobody got jealous
But that didn't help because at the end of that winter everyone knew
He is my first call when I have questions about running a business
as he did for so many years
He’s told me i remind him a lot of himself,
Ambitious,
Go getter,
And stubborn
Im proud to be following in his footsteps,
Starting a business and taking on his accounts
That means that even though his time is short
I will always have a piece of him with me,
In my mind heart and soul
And that is the only thing that makes this news
Any easier to hear.
