Memories
I run down the path,
Like Nesta Carter runs around the track
My voice is raspy when I yell stop
My heart is racing, my blood pumping,
By the time I catch up with my brother
I’m out of breath,
And my cheeks are flushed with red
My mouth tastes wild.
The run was exhilarating.
I look around trying to catch my breath
I see the lake in clear view
The waves overlapping fighting off the sand
Pushing it farther and farther away.
I take a seat on the beach
My brother comes and sits beside me
We sit there,
And listen to the sound of the waves,
The whoosh whoosh, of them overlapping one another
The cries of seagulls above our heads.
I stand up and walk over to the water,
The lake is a mirror, It reflects off beauty,
And wild personalities.
I look out at the lake Winnebago
As I’m standing by the water line,
The waves wrapping around my toes
Then leaving me with the sand sticking to my feet.
The sky darkens
The moon drapes overhead
The light of the moon illuminating the lake
Sunshine of the days is gone.
My brother taps me on the shoulder
And we begin our journey home.
I run back into the pit of blackness
Barely seeing the path, because the path
Was consumed by the trees and the dark.
