The Job No one wants to Do
I click on the large icon, then on the image
of a Big Mac–symbolizing a large number one meal,
Big Mac, large fry, and large drink.
I snatch a large styrofoam drink cup
after announcing the total and exchange the cup
with the customer for the cost of the meal.
I sigh as the cash register calculates the change,
wondering when I will be allowed to take a lunch break
I file the money in the cash register,
then I print the receipt
and give the customer their change.
“Your food will be ready in just a minute!” “Thank You!”
I recite from memory.
As the next customer approaches I exclaim,
“Welcome to McDonald's, How May I Help You?”
Once my aunt comes to pick me up
and I arrive at their house,
I immediately go to the room they gave me,
taking notice how exhausted I am, after a hard day’s work.
