on the screen
on the screen, I see myself
as a master of kung-fu, taekwondo, karate, judo, aikido—
after all, what’s the difference between them anyway?
on the screen, I see myself
as the undesirable, shy nerd,
with thick glasses, proficiency in math, and a total lack of friends!
on the screen, I see myself
as the ditzy, porcelain-skinned girl
who’s exposing a bit too much of that porcelain to old men.
on the screen, I see myself
as the bumbling buckteeth tourist
who speaks only in Chinglish and eats dogs for dinner.
on the screen, I see them as
the main protagonists, the leading roles!
but I see myself for only one scene
before I disappear into obscurity.
