"How vain is it to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live?" - Henry David Thoreau

stuck in the current
frigid and unforgiving
just dragging me down

a blur of colors
surrounded by little fish
as i sink, sink, sink

sinking into bliss
thoughtless, ignorant, happy
never asking why

sinking rapidly
struggling to stay afloat
trying to stay free

waves crash like bullets
hurtling down the ravine
a chance at freedom

free for a moment
then consumed by violent rapids
tugging at my flesh

'til i am lifeless
drifting, drifting aimlessly
to the rhythm of waves

The author's comments:
The fish caught in the current is really a metaphor for a person who is struggling to break away from the harsh realties of society and make their own way- free, independent, content.
