Bragging Rights Battle
Looking out through my window pane,
I see that wealth and freedom reign.
Take what you can get,
Beware of dark threats,
Your life won’t be much of a strain.
Within my walls I’m locked inside.
No where to run, no where to hide.
Given what’s needed,
Speech never heeded,
Wish to be free, never tried.
Tall trees, green grass sway back and forth.
They dance to pass their day in mirth.
With never a care,
With barely a stare,
They laugh, knowing what freedom’s worth.
With jealousy I glare at them,
For I have not their precious gem.
Though thinking I see
The good to be me,
‘Cause I’m not attached to a stem.
Grass stands like stone seeing this change
Looking at me, thinking it strange.
One minute I glare,
The next I’ve an air
Of looking down on our exchange.
I am a king with regal pride
Without a subject at my side.
It’s my turn to laugh.
I’ve taken their path.
I’m watching their confidence slide.
Whooshing wind carries angry song.
Alternative options are all but gone.
They’re free to descend
Where Dante greets them.
I’m wishing their trip to be long.
Smiling with lights 200 watts,
Rubbing their faces into their loss.
Their eyes turn away,
My pride’s here to stay.
I think I will challenge the moss.
