pretenders
He fills her with lies and false hope
Each day it gets more difficult to cope
All she ever wanted was to keep the memories
come to a conclusion, some form of clarity
He beats her down and makes her regret
all her faults he’ll never forget
And every day the fight moves on
He wants her back, then wants her gone
They both miss what they used to have
Whether it was smiles, tears, or a simple laugh
But history won’t relive itself
Because everyday they put each other through hell
..She lies awake half the night,
trying to figure out how to make it right
..He lies awake just the same,
but all he can process is guilt and blame
At some point they will learn to forgive,
to take their love and make amends
But for now, all they can do is quietly pretend
