Stilts
This is the moment
When you find
That the ticking of the clock isn’t really time
When the myths they taught in school
All come crashing down around you
You pick them up and examine
Looking for some vital sign
But the truths held by tomorrow
Send chills up and down your spine
Bones can crack, but they can weather
Most abuse, you’re worn and torn
Fragile stilts hold you together
Slowly dying since you were born
We gather round the sun together
In the grass, below the trees
And we think we know what love is
Think that we know how to please
But the truth is that we stand there
All together, all alone
Trapped inside this sickly cycle
As the gears turn, we all moan
We call this home
You turn towards me and unusually
I do not avert my eyes
I look down into the cavern
Of your body where you hide
Its as if this is the first time
I have ever seen at all
And then, a moment and its gone
Because you’ve turn and have moved on
Why do we so easily shy
Away from feelings, heartache, time?
Is there nothing here to thrill us?
To excite, entrance the mind
I am just a stone that’s rolling
Toward the pile at the base of this hill
Never changing my direction
Never stopping, standing still
I cannot enjoy the view
Because my eyes have been glued closed
But I think the darkness in here
Is all the beauty this world holds
Bones can crack, but they can weather
Most abuse, you’re worn and torn
Fragile stilts hold you together
Slowly dying since you were born
This is the moment
When you find
That the ticking of the clock isn’t really time
When the myths they taught in school
All come crashing down
