Last Friday
I ran last friday round the field
sky darker than a classic blue
dry leaves, in torrents, rose and wheeled
embracing autumn afternoon.
A striking day, a growing day
it charged me on in restless flight
possessing such euphoric sway
upon thoughts brimming with delight.
For him I’d seen minutes before
and faltered in my step and speech!
He’d looked as I came through the door,
and stared when I came within reach.
And such profound effect this had,
enhancing everything I felt
the wind was food to smiling lips
this day with beauty seemed to melt.
