Expectation Doesn't Cushion The Fall
He told her she was beautiful so she smiled
He was her miracle
Even though she didn't believe
That beautiful was something she could ever be
He held her hand and held her close to his side
She giggled at the thought of being his pride
But inside her heart it was breaking
She never learned to trust in her calculating
And this song it rhymes a little to well
Just like the day she fell under his spell
It all seemed perfect it all felt so right
But deep down she had always expected that night
He looked at her from across the room
She stares back but doesn't dare move
Long ago she learned her place
She was the memory they longed to replace
He smiled at her as he said goodbye
She smiled back trying to reply
But the moment he turned away
Not again was all she could say
And this song it rhymes a little to well
Just like the day she fell under his spell
It all seemed perfect it all felt so right
But deep down she had always expected that night
