let me have me
(4:42 on a Monday morning)
It's dark.
Day is still adjourning.
The heavy door of my memory
is wide open tonight.
You're standing in the doorway
staring me down with eyes
emerald as the coming dawn.
The slow whisper unwinds like song
"Darling, I'm waiting on your next move,
watching for your sign,
I'm so damn sorry
for all of this time."
We wandered down the concrete boulevard,
throwing diamante rainbows on cold sidewalk,
drenched in summer sun, sweet nothings.
We'd never heard of passions of the discreet.
"Darling, can't believe you're beautiful as all the unruly sky."
I can't remember the last thing you said to me
Was it that I am contradictory & ill, a true tragedy?
Or was it that when I run from my insanity,
You will open your arms and embrace your calamity?
They say we all have to come home. I remember
Stepping off that plane to home
Turned around and you were
chasing dreams, chasing her
You said, "All good things come to an end."
You know there's no stopping now:
She said,
Early on a Sunday morning,
"He loves me, loves me, loves me."
So I let her have you.
And now
You've got to
Let me have me.
