I'm Better Off
I’ve never really understood this teenage angst called “love.”
That on a whim makes my friends swoon and lose sleep because of
The compliments that young boys pay
And the twisted games they sometimes play.
I’ve never really felt it yet, but sometimes I want to.
I want to laugh! I want to cry!
I want my friends to dry my eyes!
But then I realize
That it’s better that I wait.
That I’m better off this way.
Because to them a phone call’s heaven’s grace
And a break up’s a calamity,
But it doesn’t really mean a thing to me.
And while their emotions fluctuate,
My feelings do not vacillate
And I’m fine.
I stand strong!
My emotions are mine!
And I’m better off this way.
I’ve never really understood how all of it makes sense.
My friends commence
To be enticed,
Then come running to me for advice
That I can’t give.
Not until I’ve actually lived through it.
I’ve never really gotten why if cupid strikes his arrow blind
The same people fall in love day to day
While I remain so hard to sway.
And they all try
To make me act the same.
Well, I’m better off this way.
Because I see the way they soar and fly
And the way they sometimes want to die,
But love doesn’t really mean a thing to me.
And while their fragile hearts tend to bend and break
I do not feel the slightest ache,
And I’m fine.
I stand strong!
My emotions are mine!
And I’m better off this way.
