The lake
A gloomy fog rolled in with all my fears.
It’s been there for years.
A light on the other side cast an eerie glow.
From across this lake I should know.
I hear a voice broken by the wind and distance.
I can’t make out the words of the owners persistence.
I’m looking across this lake.
I can barely see what I need to.
I am going to break.
Going for a swim in the cold blue.
Before I get across there will be blood.
And it’s my blood.
I’m drowning all over again.
To get across and begin.
I know I can’t make it on my own.
I’ll sink like a stone.
I hit the bottom and I’m back where I started.
My way I have never charted.
I’m looking across this lake.
I can barely see what I need to.
I am going to break.
Going for a swim in the cold blue.
Sinking I’m grabbing for anything.
And I’m not grabbing anything.
This person still waves and calls for me.
It’s in vane and that’s all I see.
I jump in again and try to swim.
I’m going farther but going to drown again.
A touch of a hand but the grip never gets hold.
I slip back deeper in to the blue cold.
I’m looking across this lake.
I can barely see what I need to.
I am going to break.
Going for a swim in the cold blue.
Will I ever make it across?
I’m trying to get across.
