The Inferno
Hush now, this is the story of a man
who, from divination's will, had an ill-divining plan.
To transcend the boundaries of the living and the damned.
To trek the bowels of Hell itself, where screams
resonate through the halls.
Blood spatters the tattered walls.
Only dead can be found down here.
The air itself is riddled with fear.
Everyone pays for their sins.
You'll always lose. You'll never win.
The evil pierces through your soul like a shot from a gun.
But Dante shook it off as he descended down to Circle Number One.
This first sin speaks to those who were so filled with Lust
that it consumed their bodies and minds, and left them as dust.
These lovers were not star-crossed, they were loving for themselves,
which is why they have their own special reservation in Hell.
As Dante walked though this love-forsaken land,
he began to realize that this journey was not what he had planned.
But he shunned any thoughts of quitting as he ventured on through,
and he descended again, down to Circle Number Two.
Circle Two is home to those who couldn't resist,
even though their bellies cried out to them, "cease and desist!"
They're swollen, fat, but not happy as their flesh peels away.
I guess they should have included a little less in their mainstay.
Dante pondered as to what sins he hath committed,
but mid-thought, a shade interrupted and omitted
that even though Dante's eyes were open, he couldn't truly see,
but Dante disregarded it and delved into Circle Number Three.
Three is for the greedy, those who were obsessed with gold.
To them, everything could be bought, and everything could be sold.
They thought they could live their lives without any recoil,
but now they're bathing and their screaming in Hell's soul-searing oil.
One shade of Greed almost dragged Dante to his demise,
but he fended it off, and then he realized
this journey wasn't for the weak. He didn't know what was in store.
And with that, he continued down to Circle Number Four.
One of Lucifer's favorite sins is stored in Circle Number Four.
Envious are the inhabitants, right down to the core.
They lusted for other people's treasures.
The pain that they now feel is without measure.
As a scream hit Dante's ear, he was momentarily afraid.
He knew there were prices that he still had to pay.
And then, within a half a second, a thought crossed his mind.
He wondered if he would make it out of Hell alive,
but he persevered and dove deep down into Circle Number Five.
Sin Five is Pride. It's emotionless, and dead,
much like those who dwell in it, who, for their lives, were led
to believe they were holier than thou, greater than you.
They swelled so much with Pride, they should be in Circle Number Two.
Dante kept trekking, got closer to the everlasting black.
Fear crept up in his mind, and he thought he should head back,
but Dante doesn't scare easy, as he crossed the Styx,
and from the Styx, he entered into Circle Number Six.
In Circle Six, Sloth is the name of the game.
The punishment's dealt here are truly evil.
They're brought forth without reprievel.
Impaled on a bed of nails was a shade of Sloth,
Who warned Dante to call his endeavor off,
But Dante ignored the shade, and continued his pursuit of Heaven,
and he entered the final Circle. Circle Number Seven.
Wrathful are the shades of lucky number Seven.
Their bodies, ripped apart,
just like their souls, their minds, and their hearts.
Dante's final step on his Road to the Kingdom of Light, or so he thought.
The smell of death permeated the air.
An evil fog encapsulated our anti-hero.
And before him stood the King of the Abyss.
Before him stood the Master of Deceit and Lies.
Dante fought bravely, and crucified him.
Dante had won the battle.
But the war was far from over.
Purgatory was in Dante's sights.
And he took his first steps a second time.
The slayer of Lucifer, the star of the show.
This is the tale of Dante's Inferno.
