Patient Road
These are the dirty kids
can you taste the tiredness,
like a hundred dusty trains
running down day after day?
Call me back, patient road
You're so reliable
Don't ask me why I don't belong in this town
I don't know
I don't know
We are the travelers
there's a rhythm in our nerves
there's a song in all our lungs
the one the black train engine burns
Sometimes the journey's hard
sometimes the journey's light
sometimes I leave off the path
but the road is patient and wise
Call me back, patient road
You're so reliable
Don't ask me why motion is my home
I don't know
I don't know
I'm coming back, ancient road!
I've walked you once before
You've been waiting all this time
Was it me you were waiting for?
I don't know...
This is my tired heart
wrapped in canvas for to depart
and when I die don't let me stay
Just put me on the boxcar
I'll ride the rail to endless day
