Heather
We were born the same year
She arrived just a few months before me
We spend holidays together
We shared the same family.
She did girlish things.
I was more into blocks.
And time kept ticking on
Like the hands on a clock.
We got older.
We had our own favorite things to do,
We had our own friends,
But we were always close
Right up to the end.
She was taken so quickly
I never got a chance
To tell her good-bye
And now it’s too late.
She’s on a new path.
A new page has turned.
I don’t understand
But there’s one thing I’ve learned.
Tell your family you love them
And don’t forget your friends.
Because when they’re taken from you
You won’t get the chance again.
