The Harpy

Perhaps i could be a golden singer
But the world will never hear me open my mouth
To spill words from my lips
My myth will go untold

I do not wish to be seen by any man nor woman nor child
Not the boy draped in gold
Nor the boy carrying his weight in grain
They are creatures of fraud
And they sow only pain

If any man should speak to me
He shall hear what i say
If he does not flee
He will drop to his knees and pray

If he feels fear at all
It does never show
I have taken my hold
I am a being he has never known

Here in the lion's den
I sing my song to him
He hears but he does not listen
My words fall on deaf ears
And i sing and i sing and i sing
The words fall and they fall and they fall

My claws he cannot shake
My leather wings he will never break

In this cave there is no light to see
There is no wind to be understood

For ten thousand years
I hold his body to mine
He is the only one to speak my name
And from his pale, frozen lips
My myth will go untold
