Utopia, Part II
I am independent, but I am still tied to the ideas of a chauvinistic society;
The scales are tipped out of my favor
And like every other girl,
I am suffering in my own right to succeed.
There’s a power I deserve and a peace I have craved since I was born;
I was born with feminist blood.
And you might try to hurt me,
But I am above you, holding
My ideas above your head.
This is my vision, and I’m
Fighting in slow motion, in silence
For every girl who’s ever been
Raped, or cut, or hurt, or hated herself.
Every time I see a weapon, I think of self-destruction
And the blame is on you,
But I won’t make you fix things yourself,
Because you can’t be trusted on your own.
It’s a thing
Only a woman can do.
Nobody controls my body except for me;
I go and do and am what I please,
And you can’t tell me I have no right to
Because my rights are human; they’re common
And I won’t submit to misogynists.
My health is my own concern,
My fertility is not a weapon for you to abuse,
And my sexuality is not an asset.
I am my own person
And I am more than just a sum of three parts.
I’m comprised of a being!
And you might try to hurt me,
But I am above you, holding
My ideas above your head.
This is my vision, and I’m
Fighting in slow motion, in silence
For every girl who’s ever been
Raped, or cut, or hurt, or hated herself.
Every time I see a weapon, I think of self-destruction
And the blame is on you,
But I won’t make you fix things yourself,
Because you can’t be trusted on your own.
It’s a thing
Only a woman can do.
I won’t live poor in this new world, and neither will anyone else;
I have the powers and the resources to succeed,
And in their own time,
Every other girl in every other country will catch up
With the movement
And all I need is a man
To take a chance on us,
Because you can’t escape the future no matter how hard you try,
And in your eyes,
We’re taking shape
And I’m not going to mold that image.
Sculpt your own perceptions and come to the right conclusions,
But move on from your days of dominance
Because this world is for women.
And you might try to hurt me,
But I am above you, holding
My ideas above your head.
This is my vision, and I’m
Fighting in slow motion, in silence
For every girl who’s ever been
Raped, or cut, or hurt, or hated herself.
Every time I see a weapon, I think of self-destruction
And the blame is on you,
But I won’t make you fix things yourself,
Because you can’t be trusted on your own.
It’s a thing
Only a woman can do.
Yeah, you might try to hurt me,
But I am above you, holding
My ideas above your head.
This is my vision, and I’m
Fighting in slow motion, in silence
For every girl who’s ever been
Raped, or cut, or hurt, or hated herself.
Every time I see a weapon, I think of self-destruction
And the blame is on you,
But I won’t make you fix things yourself,
Because you can’t be trusted on your own.
It’s a thing
Only a woman can do.
