&quot;And growing up doesn&#039;t mean anything if you never believed that ridiculous things were possible.&quot;<br /> -Denice Frohman from her poem &#039;The Rim&#039;

You’re keeping me awake tonight
Whispering sweet things in my ear
We’re talking about life
And all that’s happened this past year
Our fingers intertwine as I gaze into your eyes
It’s hard to believe you’re mine
Oh it’s hard to believe you’re mine…

Every time you smile at me
My soul seems to fly and my heart skips a beat
Our fingers touch, I blush
Nobody has ever made me feel this way
Like I’m the only one who
Will ever do the things we do.

These past two months have been such a struggle
You’re staying out late making one too many mistakes
As I lie awake at night, alone
You’re keeping somebody else occupied
With your scorching kisses
And momentary proclamations of love
It’s hard to believe you’re still mine
Oh, why are you still mine?

I guess everybody goes through this, we’re no different
Was I naïve to think that we could be happy?
Or did I just let the wrong person in?
‘Cause when you arrive home tonight
I know exactly what you’ll tell me
Explaining the mark on your neck that wasn’t from me
And the lingering scent of perfume in your hair
Baby, aren’t you tired?
Could we, maybe, just go to sleep?
Wake up in the morning and pretend
Like things are the way they use to be?
Erase these bad memories…

Oh, ‘Cause
I remember how you’d smile at me
You’d make my soul fly,
I felt like the world was mine.
How whenever
Our fingers would touch, and I’d blush
And nobody ever made me feel that way
Like I’d be the only who
Would ever do the things we did
But that wasn’t true, was it?

Don’t you remember those nights?
I know,
They seem so long ago.
How you’d keep me awake
Whispering sweet things in my ear
And we’d talk about life and this past year
Don’t you remember your promises?
Or have you forgotten those, too?
Just like you forgot that you were mine?
Just like you forgot that I was yours?
Baby, I was yours.

The author's comments:
This isn't anything personal. I had just been thinking about how relationships start of really great, but a lot of times people go off and cheat on their partner. It's a bit upsetting to think about, but this was about a girl whose boyfriend ended up cheating on her. She just wanted things to go back to the way things were, but she knew they wouldn't. It doesn't outright say it, but she leaves him in the end.
