Joshua Tree
Some say spirits travel
across the air you breathe
Where the cactus grows
and the skies are free
In this land where every rock
seems to know your history
I am the earth
and the earth is me
In the land of the mystics
I have solved my mystery
Just the rocks, and me
and the Joshua trees
If you open all your walls
and close your working eyes
You will find the answers
are as endless as the skies
You can seek the truth for years and never find it
or it can hit you like the wind
In this land where I am nothing
I am more than I've ever been
In our words we find our anger
In the silence we find peace
Just the rocks, and me
and the Joshua trees
We are all just spirits flowing
The wind, it blew me to the desert sand
Maybe we're only happy
when we finally find somewhere to land
I've never been more alone
And I've never been less lonely
Just the rocks, and me
and the Joshua trees
Just the rocks, and me
and the Joshua trees

I wrote this song in Joshua Tree, California (a truly magical place), where I spent a day sitting at the top of a very tall hill where I could see for miles and miles, with no one but my mandolin, my diary, the desert hares, and the cactuses for company. It was there that I felt truly at home and peaceful, and where I realized the importance of simply BEING. Being in touch with nature, with oneself, with the world. That is what this song is about.
