Boxed Birds
Hello, little bird
Hush, hush, don't be frightened
I know that in there
It's too dark, there's no light and
You're scared and you're shaking,
Been shuffled around,
Your mind's meant to fly,
But you're squished to the ground.
You hear booming voices,
A world big and new,
Gentle hands reach to lift you,
But what do you do
When the one thing you've known
Now is not certain fate?
When there's life you can live
Unconfined by your crate?
You're swallowed by shadows,
With no room to roam,
But what if that prison's
The thing you call home?
You're armed with soft wings,
They're designed so you glide
In the air, up out there,
No more reason to hide…
Crawl on out, little birdie,
And see what you'll find
When you're freed from the box
That they've carved in your mind.
