Dear mama

“When I was young me and my mama had
Beef 17 years old kicked out on the street”
The radio plays as my mom drives me to
School. She drives me every day because
I don’t wake up in time to make the bus.
“Ain’t a woman alive that could take my
Mama’s place”
I get flashbacks
Way back
Palatine
We had no gas
No electric
Struggling to survive.
I was only 8 years old
The man of the house.
“Over the years we were poorer than the
Other kids”
But she always managed to fix me a hot plate
Every day
“But the plan is to show you that I understand”
I realize
How many sacrifices she made for me
Only me
She cares for me
“You are appreciated”
