Ode to Calliope
"Cheif of all Muses!" as Hesiod said,
I would bless thy name, sing a thousand odes,
But neither prayer nor song which I compose
To your glory could compare.
Humbly, then, I bend my knee
To your blackbird.
Even for that wretched wailing, heard
Where magpies plea,
I give thanks to my Muse;
I would not know beauty weren't for she,
And when I part my lips, there she places words to speak.
So I bow my head to her nightingale!
It is a poor gift to take the words she has given me
And write an ode to Calliope.

I love the myths about Calliope, and I've wanted to write something celebrating her for a very long time. It struck me how it would almost be hypocritical to write her praises when it is she who gave me the words to do so.
