Sonnet MAG

By Anonymous

The great tree stands ten feet around its base
and reaches past the peak of a steepled
church. Looking calmly, with knotted face, past
the great red doors, past the well-dressed people.
Old tree, your gnarled fingers tickle the sky,
and the sun shines on you in silent thanks;
energy seeping warmly, like rainwater,
thickening your rough trunk, bright rays of strength.
Young church, your people shiver in the winter,
earthly praises flung swiftly to heaven.
Their only reaching: blind faith and blind love.
Young church, you crave what made your whitewashed beams.
Oak and its strong heart beat rhythmically, quiet,
waiting for wind to sing clatter skyward.

Amazingly descriptive and deep, and infinitely beyond writing- I am at a loss of words to write down my appreciation for this poem.

You captured this moment in such an eloquent way. The analogy of the tree being of old age and the church being young, to me, suggests the idea that nature has infinite wisdom which is strengthened by time. In the way that the focus shifts from old to young and not vice versa challenges conventional time. The tree and its branches reach toward the sky, and the people only try to reach because they are blinded by their material wishes.

To love is to be vulnerable; Triumph is born out of struggle; We notice shadows most when they stand alone in the midst of overwhelming light.

This is absolutely, fantastic and beautiful. I find this perfect and phenomenal. I love it; I love the descriptiveness and beauty and nature and depth in it. This is just wonderfully and talentedly, well-written. You have such a talent and greatness and light in you; and you are an amazing and wonderful, talented writer and person. I'm so glad that this has been published, and though this was from long time; congrats on having this published, because you truly deserved it! :) Thank you so much, my friend. For sharing this. :)

A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.

Very well said.

I like the part where it syays "tickle the sky". I found that to be so cute. It imagined the sky giggling like a child. Just a thought.

I like the way you convey nature as a beleif. That is atleast what i got from this. Nice little act of rebellion

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
-Oscar Wilde
(yes, I do note the irony in quoting this)

I really love this. I'm not sure what you wrote it to convey, but to me it is about finding more of God, or whatever you want to call it, in nature than in any religion.
