Monsoon in June
Monsoon in June, I can’t recall a time
Without this blanket of eternal rain
We see a movie; it costs just a dime
It’s cheap enough we’ve no right to complain
Monsoon in June, your mother wants my head
For breaking you but I am broken too
I’m struck by lightning, briefly golden, dead
My vacant eyes still wait for skies of blue
Monsoon in June, I think it’s far too late
We were a paper crane carefully shaped
But not protected from a crushing fate
Left in the storm while separately we ‘scaped
Monsoon in June, a cleansing in disguise
Leaves only petrichor and puffy eyes
