Shall I compare thee to a piece of toast?

Shall I compare thee to a piece of toast?
Thou art more scrumptious and delectable:
Unevenly the elements may glow’st,
And sticking levers are detestable:
Sometimes too long the slice of bread doth roast,
And seldom do the crumbs not make a mess;
And often it is much too sweet for most,
If one should drizzle honey in excess;
But thy eternal warmth shall never cool,
Nor shall thee lose thy lovely golden hue;
And I’ll rejoice that fate hath not been cruel,
Each morning on beholding thee anew;

On this perception all the world agrees,
That no delicious bread’s divine as thee.

The author's comments:
This poem is inspired by Shakespeare's sonnet 18, Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? I wrote this version for fun in my spare time. :)

Haha nice job. Funny, humerous, some parts are a little random/abstract... but that`s all a part of writing!

I am an artist bound only for the poet&#039;s glory....But only achieve half of the success that my dreams aspire to find, And to what do the whispers tell me of this failure...To what end to they haunt my nightmares...my eternal dark dreams...

I love this, it flows a marvelously. Eloquent but humorous, truly good work sir. Keep writing, I loved this piece.

I believe in everything until it is disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it&#039;s in your mind. Who&#039;s to say that dreams and nightmares aren&#039;t as real as the here and now?<br /> -John Lennon

I LOVE this poem! Great how you modeled it after Sonnet 18! I also love how you took something as simple as toast and compared to something big (someone you love). :)

This is great. It's funny and it still maintains the rhythmic meter required of a sonnet, as well as the rhyme scheme.

We see everything through a glass, darkly. Sometimes we can peer through the glass and catch a glimpse of what is on the other side. If we were to polish the glass clean, we&#039;d see much more. But then we would no longer see ourselves.

That was hilarious--sonnet 18 was one of my favorites--though I might have just chanced my mind!

Shakespeare would be proud.
