In an urban wasteland of starkness and drear,
a single rose unfurls its delicate wings.
It softens the world, a body so mere,
mending a myriad of broken things.
A brave man loses hope as his day fades to night
Long under fire, any change brings relief.
The diamonds suspended at immeasurable heights
illuminate his path as a Divine motif.
When disaster and strife plague innocent souls
The aftermath leads hearts to declare their defeat
Then a glorious prism arcs in iridescence untold,
Urging them their endeavor is nowhere complete
Retreat not from life as a crozier furled,
Appreciate beauty has power o’er an imperfect world

The author's comments:
This is a sonnet I wrote for an poetry project in my Lit class. It was inspired by a line from the song "Soul Suckers" by Amos Lee, "nothing is more powerful than beauty in a wicked world."
