The Promise of Faith
It must be the most humbling of things,
to have faith, and know that perfection will
never be for one as me, without wings,
without a halo, with mere human skill.
I can think of nothing more comforting:
 a promise of inferiority.
Reaching up and falling short, but knowing
that I am weak and always will be.
 A small gem, eternally foregoing,
 forever present, forever true.
With our failure he is always showing
his vow to us, not broken hitherto.
And I hold this fact with such great love:
that I will never be quite good enough.
