Writing a sonnet may be very hard,
But it’s a lot easier than it seems.
Thinking of the purpose is the first part;
Then after that step, comes the rhyming scheme.

Petrarchan or Shakespeare are the main types.
Depending on which type, the rhyme varies.
We learned the rhyme patterns from Mrs. Height;
There’s A B B A or A B A B.

The sonnet should be about fourteen lines,
Made up of a couplet and three quatrains.
The Volta is in line thirteen or nine,
And this is where the poem starts to change.

Add in a simile or two. Your done!
