Masks
I keep them next to my hats on their hooks
For all occasions I have a false face
My great collection of synthetic looks
Every mask on the rack has its own place
Sometimes life feels like a masquerade ball
You know only what a person tells you
The truth with their heart stays hidden from all
Behind fragile masks souls are hidden from view
In every grown body there’s a small child
With a pretty, glass heart pinned to her sleeve
A heart that sparkles when weather is mild
But would shatter if this sweet calm did leave
For this reason we lock our hearts away
And put elaborate masks on display
