Tired
Heavy eyelids dragging me to slumber,
Hushed voices, singing me a lullaby.
Through this raging battle I encumber
A force too strong for me to deny.
I’m certain you all can relate to this need.
The power of sleep, it cannot be stopped,
We fight the crook who we try to deceive
Appearing alert a posture we adopt
To convince such an enemy that we are
Paying attention. But it’s done in vain
We just get dragged along like a cable car
Can’t believe my eyelids caused so much pain
Even though these years I overlook sleep
The weekends are my night to count the sheep
