This Is My Apology
What was I but a dream,
Caught between the light and shadows of a lie,
Tearing at my only seam,
And flitting through a list of days gone by?
Tempted by a social ladder,
Trapped in the cage of a public view,
Taunted by words that wouldn’t matter,
Choosing the glamorous thing to do.
How much strength did it take
To say you’re not worth it at all?
Always awaiting the final break,
Always ignoring the desperate call.
I can’t pretend to justify the way we carry on,
But I can’t accept apologies that flicker and are gone.
