Stage Life
A silence falls upon the waiting crowd
And suddenly the show’s about to start.
In this room which, before, sounded so loud
I only hear the beat of my own heart.
There is not even a second to waste.
I breathe in deeply, and count down from ten.
The curtain opens, I now move with greater haste.
Like a groundhog, I emerge from my den.
And looking out upon the men and women
As I stand, exposed, at center stage,
I’m feeling nervous; head and stomach spinnin’
Still, I perform, and crowds begin to rage.
This is the reason we love performing;
Loud applause for you is always heartwarming.
