A Sonnet for the Samurai
Charging forth on horse back,
with a fearsome battle cry,
emerge the legacy of the fearless samurai,
robed with armor of gold, red and black.
The guns start their relentless attack –
and the end draws nigh
as the warriors heroically die
with every bullet’s fatal crack.
Yet, as hopeless as their cause seems,
their nobility, glory, sense of duty
gleams in the bloody streams –
and oh what a sight it must be to see
them raise their swords with the defiance of dreams!
Men who lived, fought and died with an honor that is a rarity.
