I stepped in the bathtub covered in soap.
I saw my reflection and dimmed the light.
What happened to my dreams, they were so white?
I have lost my beauty and my hope,
I tried to forget my past and cope.
Thinking of my sins makes my sanity take flight.
The water is rising, it is gaining height.
I see the dove, but I can only mope.
I have finished my bath, my sins have cleansed,
I dry myself and face reality.
Did I rid my angst, well it depends,
Has the world gone insane or is it me?
When will I find true love, and to what end?
A man won’t define my identity.

This poem is a reference to the character Blanche in the play "A Streetcar Named Desire".  It describes a spiritual awakening that did not occur in the play.
