Burning Flags
The little boy tells me he wants to fight
Fight against the places who have wronged us
They’ll be the bad guys, we’ll be the good guys
They will take our friends, we will take their heads
If we’re taken, we will just cry for help
They will cry, but we will not understand
They talk different, they are different
They’ll weep as we throw their flag in the fire
But everyone cries in the same language
And we've killed their friends, just as they have ours
They’ll be the heros, we’ll be the villains
I’ll cry with you now, pray not to regret
The boy understands, wounds will become scars
The boy’s dream will burn just like our dead flags.

I wrote this piece with the intention of it being latitudinous, and open to perception. By this I mean I wanted it to apply to many different situations and not be about one thing in particular. Howerver, when writing this I thought a lot about humanitys's current situations. I hope that by reading my poem, one would be able to either relate it to a current situation that they are involved in or be able to explore my mindset.
