Fire and Flood
For love you must walk through fire and flood,
Yet when the hand which caresses your face
Leaves bruises and excuses dripped in blood,
Should you stay, and forgive with boundless grace?
When you find that the suffocating rains
Are but his rag and water trapping breaths,
Should you not turn away from these harsh strains
And put this twisted romance to the death?
Romantics say to submit for love true.
Surrender and watch our dignity char.
Yet for the love of self, respect is due
And some of love’s wounds are better as scars.
Dance with Shiva’s embers lighting your heart,
For though it hurts, some souls are best apart.
