The Hunt
The air is still and nothing stirs this night,
A shadow crawls across the leafy ground.
The moon fills the sky with its clear light;
A pair of eyes appears and looks around.
The amber gaze rests on a shape so small,
It is a mouse nibbling on a seed.
Unaware of the owl looming tall,
It chews and quickly continues to feed.
The owl gazes down upon the mouse,
It spreads its wings, its stare fixed on its prey,
And extends its talons, ready to pounce.
The mouse will not see another bright day.
Sinking its claws into the mouse’s chest,
The bird takes its bloody catch to its nest.

I really like birds of prey and I thought this subject would be pretty cool to write about.
