One of the biggest sporting events in the world took place on Sunday, February 3rd, 2019. Super Bowl LIII took place in Atlanta at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Falcons. The New England Patriots once again competed against the Los Angeles Rams to earn the title of Super Bowl Champion.

This year’s Super Bowl was the lowest scoring Super Bowl game in the history of the NFL, with the Patriots defeating the Rams with a score of 13-3. According to NFL, the Patriots wide receiver, Julian Edelman, was named the MVP of the Super Bowl with his 10 catches and 141 yards, bringing his team to a victory. Additionally, the Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, won sixth Super Bowl title, the most of any NFL player. Both teams scored field goals during the game, making the score 3-3 for the majority of it. Then, in the 4th quarter, Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots tight end, made a miraculous catch, which ultimately lead his team to score the game winning touchdown.

This year’s Super Bowl halftime show was performed by Maroon 5, the rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi, with a surprise performance from SpongeBob. Although these artists are extremely talented and well revered, their performance was described as subpar. “Adam Levine took the stage in what was the most unpopular halftime show” stated The Breeze when reporting on this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. One part of the halftime show that was memorable was the part where the iconic “Sweet Victory” song from SpongeBob played. After the recent death of Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob, fans had protested for Maroon 5 to incorporate “Sweet Victory” from the 2001 episode of SpongeBob, “Band Geeks”, where SpongeBob had performed during the Super Bowl. According to Sports Illustrated, over 700,000 people signed a petition to make this happen, and their wish came true.

Overall, the 2018 Super Bowl between the Patriots and Rams was not one to remember. The gameplay was slow throughout the entire game and the halftime show was not entertaining. With the 2019 NFL season slowly approaching, fans have high hopes for their teams to have a great season and they hope that they will be the Super Bowl LIV winner.

I am a football fan, who like most people, enjoys watching the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by this years game, so I wrote a review on it.
