Picnic Basket Review
If you want a good sandwich, you’ll go to The Picnic Basket. Located in Nashotah, Wisconsin, the local restaurant sits adjacent to an old school and other small houses. You’ll park your car, go up the stairs, and be greeted by the cheerful, friendly staff as they hand you a menu.
Your hungry eyes will skim the multitude of items: pizzas, salads, sandwiches, homemade desserts, the monthly specials– what will you choose?
You may want to begin with some appetizers. Deep fried mozzarella sticks? Cheesy garlic bread dripping with warm marinara? I would recommend Picnic Basket’s signature dead ends. They’re just as the name describes. The ends of bread slathered with garlic butter, mozzarella, and Italian seasoning baked to a perfect crisp in the ovens served with a choice of ranch or marinara. A unique menu item with a distinct, iconic taste. Perfect with the seasonal soup as you can dunk them right in.
You might say the Meat Comba sub, a savory, hot’n ready, sandwich stuffed with two thick slices of steak, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and any assortment of toppings of your choice. This sandwich is a monster: you will not be hungry after taking on this beast. Though it may be on the heftier side for pricing at $23.99, you are getting two chunky, sizzling hot steaks squished between Picnic Basket’s signature bread, decorated with an assortment of delicious toppings. If there’s a place to blow through $23.99 with the swipe of your credit card, it would be at Picnic Basket to get this elite sub sandwich because you will not be disappointed.
Maybe you’re not ready to take on the challenge of the Meat Comba, which is understandable. Maybe you want something lighter, something cheaper, something healthier… The Chicken, Bacon, Avocado, Salad. The salad contains those very items: chicken, bacon, avocado, in addition with tomatoes and crumbled bleu cheese with your choice of dressing. You could get ranch, southwest ranch, raspberry vinaigrette, their fresh, homemade house oil, and if that doesn’t sound healthy enough you could get their special low cal ranch and oil. This jam packed, delicious salad sits at $12.50 and will not disappoint you with its fresh, crisp ingredients.
Suppose after all that fine dining, you want to take something home to eat. Picnic Basket has some of the best selections of dessert in Wisconsin. Homemade rice krispie treats, break up cake, puppy chow, and in October you can get the seasonal pumpkin bars, my personal favorite. They also have cookies and cheesecake, but if you have the chance in Fall, I would highly recommend picking up the pumpkin bars with homemade frosting– but be warned! Once you have one, you’ll want another one, then another one, then another one– as is the case with most people as they sell out extremely quickly. If you want to be infected with Fall spirit, pick up a pumpkin bar, you won’t regret it.
Picnic Basket, being the local, family owned business that it is, has some of the best sandwiches and foods in Wisconsin. If you’re looking to spend some money on some great food, be it an appetizer, a full course meal, or even a dessert, Picnic Basket, located in Nashotah is the place to go.
