Small-plate restaurants confuse me. Sometimes they are too unique or too expensive. So, the first time I went to Tofte’s table, I was skeptical.

My parents had boasted about it as they had been multiple times before inviting me. They have a very open palette when it comes to food—unlike mine.

I can say that this seemingly normal restaurant instantly blew me away.

Tofte’s Table is located in downtown Waukesha, Wisconsin on Riverfront Street right by the Fox River. The interior is a little bit on the smaller side and the tables are in close proximity to each other. Reservations are necessary as the restaurant fills up. They have a bar where they make all sorts of drinks for anyone.

The menu currently features 26 items sorted in categories. The items range from $8-$22. Each item includes vegetarian and/or gluten free information. Some items are able to be modified to be vegetarian or gluten free to fit your dietary needs. All of the items on the menu can be shared, or enjoyed for yourself.

I always have to indulge in a mocktail or two. The mango mule is one of my favorites. Fresh muddled cucumber with lime along with sweet mango puree topped with tangy non alcoholic ginger beer.

Everytime we visit we love to try new menu items while also staying loyal to our favorites.

A favorite we always have to indulge in is the braised short ribs. The deliciously tender and flavorful short ribs sit on top of honey-glazed carrots and radishes, beneath them, rich parmesan risotto. The dish is topped with a braising reduction. Such a simple looking dish filled with the most amazing combinations of flavors and textures. Not a single part of this dish is ever left bland.

Recently, we tried a new dish ,The chicken and waffles. Fried chicken thighs upon, fluffy truffle waffles. The thought of truffles in a waffle made me nervous, but such an unexpected ingredient made a huge difference in this dish. The savory waffles perfectly complemented the sweetness of the spicy maple syrup and orange butter. Along with the chicken and waffles you get to enjoy sauteed brussel sprouts and shallots. All the flavors–so unique and different–were able to beautifully merge and create a truly unforgettable meal. Everything about this dish was delectable.

Something we never skip at Tofte’s Table is dessert. They have many different desserts to choose from for any flavor preference. Revel in a rich and creamy flourless chocolate torte. This is one of their most popular desserts as it is comparable to fudge. A fresh and citrusy sorbet is perfect if you are feeling like a lighter dessert would be better. This is the best way to finish off a flavorful meal and experience from Tofte’s Table.
Tofte’s Table did not disappoint. Every appearance we make I fall in love with the food all over again. This place is one of the best small-plate restaurants I have ever been to. The versatility encourages that anyone can have a great dining experience here. I will surely be back very soon and eager to do it all over again.
